A culmination of editing by Bjarne Bare, Behzad Farazollahi and Christian Tunge since the previous title from 2015 titled New Scandinavian Photography, the book includes new work and words from 30 internationally acclaimed contemporary photographers with interviews conducted by the editors.

Published spring 2020 by Skira editore in Milan. The publishing of the title also marks MELK’s 10 year anniversary.

Why Photography? is an academic reader to be published on the occasion of the first edition of The Henie Onstad Triennial for Photography titled New Visions, held at the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter from February through May 2020, which is co-curated by MELK.
