Flemming Ove Bech
Manoeuvres at MELK

November 18 – December 11 2017

MELK proudly presents Flemming Ove Bech with his first Solo exhibition in Norway titled Manoeuvres

In this exhibition of photographic works Flemmimg Ove Bech utilises tropes and cliches of the photographic discipline and challenges the traditional gallery etiquette to suggest paradoxes and oddities in contemporary tendencies within visual culture.

A mix of portraiture and still life images emphasise the fetishising gaze inherent to the camera but the images are not often readily available for our instant, scopophilic pleasure. As suggested by the exhibition title, different strategies are employed to obstruct the viewer’s effortless consumption. The exhibited works are reproduced and presented in ways to question and problematise conventions relating to photography as art, the value of the photographic print and the perceived value of its index as communicated through the physical qualities of said print.

Flemming Ove Bech (Danish b. 1982) is an artist working in the fields of photography, printmaking and independent publishing. He is the co-founder of Copenhagen-based imprint Lodret Vandret and the experimental art book festival One Thousand Books, which recently saw its third iteration realised at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Flemming Ove Bech holds a certificate from The School at the International Center of Photography in New York (2009) and an MFA in Photography from Valand Academy (2015).
Flemming Ove Bech lives and works in Berlin.

MELK is open Thursdays through Sundays 12 – 4 pm during exhibitions or by appointment.

The exhibition is supported by the Arts Council Norway.
