David Schoerner (f. 1984) bor og arbeider i New York City. Han mottok Bachleor i Fine Art ved Montserrat College of Art i Beverly, Massachusetts i 2007 og har deltatt ved gruppeutstillinger i byer som New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Cape Town og London. January 13th – Febrary 13th

MELK is proud to embrace 2011 with David Schoerners first solo exhibition titled
May All Your Dreams Come True.

Schoerner works conceptually and thematically, focusing mainly on individual images rather than a series. Everyday objects are given a narrative through Schoerner’s gaze and the viewer enters a world where it is up to them to find the story behind the subject. Through a calculated approach to the medium Schoerner creates work for reflection and contemplation. The focus is to ask questions rather than to answer them and show work that at first seems disparate but upon further viewing denotes a strong connection.

When working with the single image, rather than focusing on classic photographic series, Schoerner makes use of the book-medium to put the work in a narrative context. The title May All Your Dreams Come True derives from a postcard to the artist signed by actress Tiffani-Amber Thiesen and also shows up in one of the works in the exhibition. The printed book and publications of Hassla, including Schoerner’s own, are shown alongside two large vinyl banners.

Based in New York City David Schoerner is the first artist in the history of the gallery with a background outside of Scandinavia. Schoerner has family from Sweden and is the founder of the renowned publisher Hassla, which has published 16 books with a focus on photography and two posters by Tom Sandberg.
